Captain Akhilesh Saxena, a Kargil War Veteran and a Motivational Speaker was recognized during our 70th Republic day celebrations on Rajpath, Delhi for his outstanding contribution to Nation both during Kargil war and now inspiring and motivating society. His picture on Veterans tableau as part of Republic day celebrations. This Kargil War Veteran is a TED talk speaker and have delivered motivational keynote sessions on Leadership to various top companies. He is a regular inspiring speaker on various TV channels like Times Now, Zee TV, NDTV, Rajya Sabha, India TV. National channel DD has done a full program on him and about his achievements and Leadership in the adverse situation.

Journey of a boy to an Indian Army Officer,  From Kargil War Hero to a Corporate Leader

Captain Akhilesh Saxena started his schooling from the Sainik School Gorakhal, after qualifying entrance exam with scholarship with a life mission to become an army officer and serve in the Indian army. He left his footprints as a house captain in class 12th.

Ambitious Akhilesh got selected in the National Defence Academy, Pune and earned Glider-trophy with his Echo-Squadron in the Cross (X)-Country event three times in a row. After viscous and tough training of three years in the NDA, he choose Indian Artillery as his fighting arm and went for training to the Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun. A small boy from a small town turned into an Indian Army Officer In 1995 and passed out as lieutenant from IMA. He became an artillery officer and commissioned in “223 Medium Regiment” in Ferozpur.

 

 

The sheer grit of Captain Akhilesh Saxena, exhibited from the fact that he was posted on the battlefield of Kargil just weeks after he got married in 1999. Nothing could deter this brave captain, who was an artillery officer and attached with 2-Rajputana Rifles in Kargil war. This Kargil war hero, successfully, along with his troops, conquered the Kargil peaks — Tololing, The Hump, and Three Pimples. The inspiring leaders of the Indian Army set an example for the rest of the world: Lead from the front, in the most challenging environment of the Kargil. He is a man of action and not mere words and this he exhibited with his leadership in a crises situation in the Kargil war. During the Kargil war, Captain Akhilesh Saxena got severely injured with enemy shelling but continued the mission, and his team emerged victoriously. He had to undergo a series of medical procedures due to the bullet injuries for around one year. He got disabled and accepted the posting in the Army Headquarters.
The transition from army to corporate sector begin when this Kargil war wounded soldier moved on from the Army to join a full-time MBA course at the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) to explore new unconquered avenues and received a gold medal while passing out. He has consistently exhibited excellent performance and is considered as a forerunner to take up a top management position in corporate. He went to Michigan University for an executive leadership course. This Kargil war veteran got selected in Wipro through campus as senior manager. Soon he bagged the prestigious Super Boss award for two consecutive years. Next, he worked as DGM-Business Excellence with Airtel. Here, his responsibilities included business processes for “Projects “, “Service Delivery”, “Order Fulfilment “, “Customer Satisfaction” and “Billing & Collections” at the national level. This corporate trainer has completed certifications like PMP and six sigma black belt and Tata business excellence Model.
Captain Akhilesh Saxena joined the Tata Group in a senior leadership position. He is working as a Vice President with Tata Group, successfully using the Lessons from the Kargil War in corporate leadership. Here also he became the recipient of the highest award “Proclub” for three consecutive years. Now over 22 years of experience in corporate world, this motivational leader found similarities between military operations and corporate working. There are obstacles, opportunities, planning for eventualities and contingencies on both the fronts. To inspire every citizen to contribute his best for the nation, this Kargil war veteran with his wife Shikha Saxena continuously takes motivation sessions through Inspiring Mantras. Their motto is “Every citizen of the country is a soldier if he intends to be”. Inspiring Mantras has been established with a mission to bring transformation in the vision, thinking process and actions of our countrymen. This initiative is in the honour of our fallen and wounded soldiers. A tribute to our Indian soldiers: they are the role model for the people of India.
